THIS version was illustrated by Jessie Wilcox Smith and published by Dodd Mead & Co of New York. It Is a moral tale of a sweep's boy who is wrongly suspected of misdeeds, runs away and is changed into a water baby by the fairies and then goes through many adventures and travails until he is finally united with the other water babies where he has other adventures. Note that the layout and page numbers presented here are considerably different from the original book.
