This site came about as an offshoot from one of my other hobbies - traditional music. During my researches in that subject, for traditional children's songs and nursery rhymes, I began to suspect that many traditional tunes may have their origins in the melodies of some of these nursery rhymes and children's songs, and whilst this may be interesting, and a good subject for a thesis some day; the main point is, I felt they, like traditional music, are a worthwhile tradition to preserve. My traditional music site www.traditionalmusic.co.uk does have some of the material but really what was needed was a site dedicated to these classic children's books. And this site is to be my attempt to make as much of this material available as possible, in an easy to understand and non-academic way.

ERRORS: The process of scanning and OCR to generate web pages is subject to many problems and often produces errors. Please accept my apologies for any you find. I will. if time allows, be trying to produce some better versions of some items, in the meantime I hope your enjoyment is not too spoiled and that you find what I have presented useful.

COPYRIGHT: In general, the materials on this site are provided for personal, non commercial, research and educational purposes. Some items maybe covered by particular or public commons licensing. To the best of my knowledge all the books included are out of copyright or otherwise within the public domain category. ALL pages and GRAPHICS on this site do include some of my own work for which I claim copyright. However, this site was made with the intention of making the materials included generally available, and you are welcome to use them for purposes as above. Website owners are also granted a free licence to use small sections from this site on their personal websites providing an acknowledgement of source is given (one for each item used) and a link to my home page is include on each page where one or more items is used.
